It’s hard to believe that 2017 has come to a close. I cannot begin to tell you just how incredible 2017 was for me, Jay, and for our family. There have been blessings, rest, lessons learned, and an overwhelming amount of growth and support. I owe everything to God and to my husband.
At the beginning of 2017 I shared a few goals for the year and I will be doing the same for 2018, this week. I think that I did pretty well with my goals for this year, but I did realize that I didn’t make them specific enough. When reviewing them I felt that I could exactly pinpoint whether I was successful or not. I am however excited to share that I’m currently working my way through Lara Casey’s power sheets and I’m so happy I decided to purchase these! I can’t wait to share my new goals and prep for the year very soon. Did you purchase her 2018 Powersheets? If so I would love to share more on them and get tips from you too!
Anyways, just let me know what you would like to see from me as far as goal setting! I wanted to share this post and reflect on you all fo the amazing points and learning experiences of 2017. I am forever grateful for this year and inspired to see what 2018 will be like for our family.
In 2017, I had the opportunity of working with a few really amazing brands! Generally, you don’t see branded content here on my blog for a few reasons. One, I’m a smaller blogger and usually don’t have the opportunity to work with that many brands. Two, I am very picky about which brands and collaborations that I choose to work with and/or participate in. While I would love more than anything to make this blog a full-time job, I would never sacrifice your trust to make money. If the fit isn’t right, I have learned that even if it’s hard, to say no. I don’t get any pleasure for being paid if the fit isn’t right. Instead, it is quite miserable!
I had the opportunity to work with one of my favorite brands, Glamboxes, this year! I also had the opportunity of a lifetime to work with L’Occitane. I adore their products and would recommend them to anyone. Working with them was a dream and I pray to have the opportunity to work with them again! Lastly, I had the opportunity to work with Lily and Laura, one of my favorite jewelry brands. It has truly been such an honor to be able to work with so many incredible brands this year. I can only pray for 2018 to be just as good!
My Instagram photos have been reposted by Glamboxes, L’Occitane, Williams Sonoma, Williams Sonoma Home, Newport Brass, Ferguson, The Kellogg Collection, Shopstyle Collective, Circa, West Elm Va Beach, Martina Liana, Like To Know It Home, Baublerella, Thermatru Doors, Whole Foods Hampton Roads… Just to Name a few!
Health and Well Being
I am so grateful to have had a healthy year with my family. Our pup, Diesel, recently gave us a scare at the vet and it just reminded me to be grateful for every moment. Even the “normal” ones, because my normal is so good! Thank you, God!
At the beginning of 2017, I was so hungry for travel! While I am always so eager to travel, I really dislike leaving our sweet pup at home. That’s one reason why I love Montage Palmetto Bluff so much! Our babe is always welcome there! However, we were blessed enough to be able to travel to both Palm Beach and Chicago this year.
While Chicago was great, Palm Beach was SO much better! You can see a recap of our stay, here, however, I can just tell you that I can’t wait to go back to Palm Beach and stay at The Breakers again! It is one of my new favorite travel destinations!
Chicago was such a fun but quick trip. I would love to have the opportunity to go back to Chicago one day. Jay was able to do some exploring but I spent the majority of my time at the Blog Societies Conference.
5K Youtube Subscribers
Hitting 5K was such a huge accomplishment for me this year. You probably already know that Youtube is where I started this blogging journey, many years ago. I have always teetered on the edge of quitting this whole shebang because I just never felt like anyone was reading or watching? The end of 2017 has really kept me going. Hitting 5k subscribers really helped me to understand that you are reading and watching and supporting me. That I should keep going and that hopefully 10K and 20k are much closer than they feel!
Working With Tiffany Sigmon
In 2017 I took the plunge and made the investment in photography. Not only was this such an amazing business investment, but I we also created an even deeper friendship. It has been an honor to work beside Tiffany and learning so many things from her. I’m excited to watch her grow her business even further in 2018!

3K Instagram Followers
Along with the Youtube milestone, I also hit 3k Instagram followers which is pretty huge for me too. Instagram has thrown us all for a loop this year and I’m happy to have found a true connection with so many gals, on Instagram, this year! While to new algorithm is tough if you are hoping to gain traction as a blogger, I feel that the industry is now SO saturated. I keep praying that this will weed out all of those who aren’t truly in it with their heart. I have been there and I’m happy to say that I’m not there any longer. Follow me here.
It’s easy for me to be a complainer, which I am working on majorly! One thing that was my biggest blessing and complaint, this year, was our home. We still don’t have a closet and are still missing quite a bit of furniture, but I am starting to realize that complaining is what’s holding me back. I’m holding myself back. We have made so many home improvements/additions to our build this year, that are incredible. I am thankful for every.single.one and it’s way past time for me to stop complaining about everything! A few home additions we have made this year:
- A Sofa
- Our Bed
- Bedside Tables
- Tree Removal
- Plants and Garden Beds
- and many others things…
Learning the Hard Way
As with most things in life, I always tend to learn the hard way. 2017 brought about many bumps in the road that required, even more, learning and growing through faith. I learned to really recognize my actions and how they affect other people. I learned that even though you are a blood relative, you can still be betrayed, cut deeply and slandered. Put your faith and trust in God, not people, possessions, or words. The only thing that is standing in my way is me.
I began working on my new site, towards the end of 2017 with Tori from Harper Maven. I can’t wait to show you the finished product, very soon!
2017 was such an amazing year for us. I can only pray that I learn half as much in 2018 as I did in 2017. I’m thankful for each and every moment, even the hard ones. They brought my family closer and made us stronger. 2017 revealed everyone’s true colors, including my own. It showed me where I need to improve and how to be a better person and wife.
Thank you 2017 and you Welcome 2018! I hope that this new year brings you health, happiness, and many blessings!
