My skincare routine has been long awaited and I’m so excited to finally be sharing it with you. While my night time and morning skincare routines, don’t differ too much, I thought it would be better to share them separately, for the sake of this post not being too long. Skincare has always been something that I focused on, even from a young age. My mom always taught me the importance of caring for your skin and investing in your skincare, instead of makeup.
In my teens, my skin began becoming a problem and it has taken me many years to figure out how to heal it. Most every teenager experiences some breakouts, but mine were pretty brutal all the way up until the past year or so. I have had to spend time finding out what my skin likes, what it doesn’t like and how to keep it from freaking out so often! I have taken oral medication to help my acne and found that it made my skin way too sensitive. The sun became my enemy. I couldn’t be out in it for a minute without scorching and that is just not how I want to live. I love being outside.
Obviously hormones play a huge role in acne, as well as the food, and drinks, we consume. When it’s that time of the month for me, my skin definitely breaks out. I can usually tell when it’s hormonal because my jaw line is lined with pesky pimples! Little and big ones! Unfortunately, that’s something I can’t really control. Greasy, unhealthy foods, definitely don’t aid in keeping my skin clear either. If I am consuming a ton of alcohol, let’s say when I’m on vacation, I also tend to break out more. In the end, I think it all comes down to balance, lot’s of water, a little sunshine and a good skincare regimen!
While it has taken me a while to perfect my skincare regimen, I am still always trying out different products and treatments. I love getting facials and have truly seen an improvement in my skin, the past few months, by getting regular facials.
Cleanse + Tone
First, start out by cleansing my face. I am that weird person that brushes their teeth in the shower, so you bet I wash my face in there too! I use the Murad Daily Cleansing Foam to cleanse my skin. This leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean, without being stripped of it’s moisture. I love this cleanser because it gives my skin a clean, refreshed and toned feeling, without drying it out. With a foam pump, the packaging is efficient, allowing me regulate how much cleanser I use.The formula itself contains witch hazel, which really helps to tone my skin.
Generally I don’t use a toner in the morning. However, on days when I feel I need that little extra something, I will use the Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herb and Rosewater. This spray is refreshing and hydrating and makes my skin feel cool and calm.
Next up, I apply my Estée Lauder Clear Difference Advance Blemish Serum. You guys this might just be one of my favorite products in the entire routine. A sales associate recommended this to me when I was at the counter for another purchase. At first I wasn’t willing to bite. I really don’t like pushy sales associates and you could say I was getting that vibe from this lady. In the end, I’m glad I caved! This product has worked miracles on my skin. Not only does it heal active breakouts, but it soaks up oil and prevents future irritation.
Most people probably wouldn’t double up on the acne treatments, but I just can’t help it. I need all the acne fighting power I can get! After the Estée Lauder serum, I apply the Kate Somerville Anit-Bac Clearing Lotion. This lotion seems to get a ton of attention and great reviews online. It also happens to be one of my favorite skincare products. I guess I love a good acne treatment! The Anti-Bac Clearing lotion contains benzoyl peroxide which helps to kill bacteria and calm inflamed areas on my skin.
If there are any spots that are giving me more trouble and just need a little extra attention, I will apply the Mario Badescu Drying Cream to those areas. I started using this cream when I was in high school and at first I wasn’t convinced this was for me. I just felt like it wasn’t working. So, I gave it to Jay, for him to try. It didn’t take long before we could both see a difference in his skin. Needless to say, I snatch that drying cream right back, in a heartbeat! I’m still thankful for his endless patience with me. Since then, I have been pretty loyal to the Mario Badescu Drying Cream and feel like it is truly one of the best spot treatments out there.
I would be a terrible person if I didn’t warn you that this does smell terrible. But, it works like magic! So you just have to weigh the pros and cons.
Depending on what my makeup plan for the day is, I will either wear my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel or go straight for my It Cosmetics CC+ Cream. I have been using the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel for years. My mom gave this moisturizer to me as the start of my skincare regimen, when I was a little girl. The gel moisturizer is great if you have oily or acne prone skin. It keeps the oily at bay, while still hydrating the skin. It always feels really cool and calming the skin too!
The It Cosmetics CC+ Cream is a tinted moisturizer, so you want to use the in the morning. If I am just cleaning around the house, running errands, or going to the beach, I will wear this! It has been a serious favorite of mine all summer. I haven’t worn foundation the past few months, instead I have been wearing this. I picked up this NARS foundation to incorporate for the Fall, but I have to say It Cosmetics is a new beauty favorite!
There is no denying that I love a good lip balm. I have raved for years about the La Mer Lip Balm and I truly love all of their products. This balm does an amazing job of keeping my lips hydrated. I apply it morning, night and in between. When I put this on my lips at night, I wake up in the morning with a trace of balm and hydrated lips. To me, that is some serious hydration and staying power! Lately, I have also been loving this Lip Pot from Emile Cordon (c/o). It is also very hydrating and gives my lips the perfect pink tint!
I just recently started using the Clinique All About Eyes Rich eye cream and I have to say that I now understand the hype. This product is so hydrating and cooling. It feels so great on my eyes and I am it helps to calm any puffiness that I have. I would recommend this eye cream for someone who wants to prevent any fine lines or wrinkles! It also doesn’t interfere with my concealer and foundation, so it’s perfect for morning and night time use.
