Louis Vuitton Neverfull Review and ComparisonLouis Vuitton Neverfull Review and ComparisonLouis Vuitton Neverfull Review and Comparison

After posting a “What’s In My Bag?” Video a month, or so ago on my youtube channel, I received quite a bit of feedback wanting a comparison of my Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM and GM bags. I have always been a lover of handbags, and jump any chance I get to chat about them! The Louis Vuitton Neverfull is by far one of my favorite designer bags and, if your budget allows, is a great investment piece. It is the most versatile, and classic bag (other than the Chanel classic flap-of course), on the market, and I don’t foresee it going away anytime soon.

I have always had this impulse of overusing something if I love it. Whether its my favorite restaurant, meal, movie, or clothing store, If I love it, you will find me there nonstop! However, when it comes to handbags, I haven’t really been one to “repurchase” the same bag. This could possibly be because there is always another bag on my list, that I want to purchase, but when summer rolled around this year the only thing I could think about was the Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM in the Damier Azur print. I have been collecting Louis Vuitton for several years now and I do really love the brand. In order to complete this post, I wanted to give a little backstory, on why it is that I have TWO different versions of the same handbag. So, if you are here strictly for the comparison of the MM and GM, skip down to see that!

These bags are very similar, and also different, in quite a few ways. I will describe each of them individually and then review the bag itself, setting the size aside.

Here are a few other popular handbag resources:

The Story

For Christmas in 2012 (my senior year in high school), Jay gifted me my very first Louis Vuitton piece, which was nothing other than the Speedy… I had dreamed of this handbag for years, and although I don’t find it quite as practical, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. These days, if I had to recommend one designer “starter” handbag, it would be the Louis Vuitton Neverfull. Fast forward two years, I had completed my associate’s degree and just got accepted into the 4-year school of my dreams, The College of William and Mary. I was so excited and let’s be real, I was proud, really proud– and I couldn’t wait to start classes that Spring 2014 semester. My parents took a little holiday trip to Vegas and when they came home, they gifted me my Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM bag as an acceptance gift. This was a moment I had looked forward to since I was in 1st grade. My cousin went to William & Mary, and I just prayed one day I would get the chance to study there too.  My parent supported me through that entire process, and the stressful years to follow, and surprised me with my second Louis Vuitton bag as a gift! A little over two years later, a few weeks after graduation, I wanted to treat myself to something as a graduation gift, because those two+ years were not the best. Needless to say, I did a lot of learning in the books, and about myself during that time. I wanted a bag that I could carry in the summer months, that would be versatile and easy to maintain. I knew, after a short amount of thought, that I wanted to purchase the Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM in the Damier Azur print. Especially after seeing the Rose Ballerine interior. Can we say stunning? There was a moment that I thought I might have wanted a Céline luggage tote, but I just don’t know that they are “timeless investment” like the Louis Vuitton bags. So I purchase myself the bag and now we are here to compare them!

Lois Vuitton Neverfull

In general, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull is an iconic, luxury bag. In all honesty, I feel that any lady who is a lover of luxury goods, and handbags should own at least one size, of this bag. I do believe that each bag serves a different purchase, however I do not own the PM size, so I cannot speak for that. Between the MM and the GM sizes, I have found that they each greatly serve different purposes, which you can read about below. The Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag is a classic tote style handbag. Introduced in 2007 by Louis Vuitton, the Neverfull features a canvas exterior and textile lined interior. The bag is trimmed in natural cowhide leather trim, including two straps for carrying the bag. Each Neverfull, now comes with a detachable clutch that can be attached to the interior of the bag and used for additional storage, or remove and used on its owns as a pochette! This is one of my personal favorite features of the bag. You basically have two bags in one, that are wonderful on their own, or work great together. The bag, and detachable clutch, each feature gold plated hardware, that matches well with each canvas option.

Overview:

  • Tote Style Bag
  • Canvas exterior with textile lined interior
  • Natural cowhide leather trim and straps
  • Detachable clutch that can be used as a pochette or an additional interior pocket
  • Gold plated hardware

Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM Price $1,340.00

After having both the GM and the MM size, when I think of the GM I truly think “Never-Full.” This bag is literally never-full, it holds loads, and loads, of things. I have used it as my carry on travel bag, school bag, overnight bag, a work bag and so much more. It’s hard to describe how much will fit in this bag, just because it holds so much. I love this bag and after carrying it quite a bit recently, after having a long term break from it, I realized just how large it is. Every now, and then, I will carry this bag as my daily bag, but truthfully I look at this more as a travel/carry all, tote bag. After owning the MM size, I don’tt see this bag as something I would carry as a purse on the daily any more. These days, I mostly use the GM for travel or if I am making a run to our house, and need to bring all the contents of my purse, in addition to other things like a laptop, agenda, notebooks, magazines, my camera and any additional miscellaneous things that I seem to always need! If you are a mom, the GM size would be incredibly handy, as it fits load of stuff and is still very fashionable 🙂 However, for me this bag is something that I carry regularly, but not every day. I still use this a couple of times a week, I just don’t use it as my everyday handbag.

Dimensions:

  • length 15.7 “
  • height 13.0″
  • width 7.9″

Material Options:

  • Monogram Canvas (interior lining options are Beige and Pivoine, which is a bright fuscia color)
  • Damier Ebene Canvas (interior lining is the classic red color)
  • Damier Azur Canvas (interior lining options are Beige and Rose Ballerine)

Overview:

  • Large and spacious tote bag
  • Perfect for travel, school, work and for carrying many large items (it’s never-full!)
  • A great buy for the price
  • Good option for those who are taller. I’m short so this bag looks pretty big on me!
  • Mus have bag for a handbag lover or a Louis Vuitton junky!

Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM

As mentioned before, I purchased the Neverfull MM in the Damier Azur print, with Rose Ballerine interior, as a graduation gift for myself. I used this bag just about every day, from May until the end of September. I love this bag so much. The Damier Azur print is perfect for summer and I love the MM size. However, I will say that the Neverfull MM, in my opinion, is a completely different bag than the GM. I find that the MM size is a bit too small to use as a carry-all for travel, school, and other things. It doesn’t fit nearly the contents of the GM, however, it serves as a wonderfully open and spacious tote handbag, that I will carry on a daily basis. If you are busy and are looking for a small work bag to fit a small laptop, agenda, wallet and your personal belongings, this bag would be great for you. However, if you are looking to carry any large books, papers or cameras, you may want to go for the GM. In my opinion, the Neverfull MM serves best as an everyday handbag. It fits more than what I carry on a daily basis but does not feel overstuffed. When I add my DSLR camera and any other bulky things, the bag will not close and I find it hard to carry. AS far as the Damier Azur print, I had not had any trouble with transfer and I wear this bag all the time with dark wash jeans! I will say that the Rose Ballerine interior lining is very sensitive to marks and shows even the smallest bit of dirt, so that is much more high maintenance than I imagined. Overall I really love the MM size and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a spacious, but still practical size tote bag to carry every day. It is a  classic style and I would recommend the monogram canvas for a timeless look!

Dimensions:

  • length 12.6″
  • width 11.4″
  • height 6.7″

Material Options:

  • Monogram Canvas (interior lining options are Pivoine, Rose Ballerine, Beige and Cherry)
  • Damier Ebene Canvas (interior lining options are Rose Ballerine and Red)
  • Damier Azur Canvas (interior lining options are Rose Ballerine and Beige)
  • Eli Leather comes in a variety of colors: Indigo, Rose Ballerine, Coquelicot and Noir)

Overview:

  • Spacious bag that is best used as a everyday handbag
  • Does not hold as much as the GM, but still holds much more than the average handbag
  • A great buy for what you get, but the GM is probably a better price between these two options
  • Great investment for a timeless, luxury handbag that can be used for many different occasions!
  • I would recommend this bag as the best first luxury handbag purchase!

Wow this is such a great and informative post, Morgan! I am in the hunt for my very first Neverfull and I still don’t know if I should get the MM or GM, so this was very helpful. (I think I am going to be purchasing the GM).

    Hi Morgan,
This is such an informative post…thank you for taking the time to include all of the details and photos that you did! I just got the Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM in the damier ebene. Just curious why you chose the azure over the ebene? I was so torn because I’m smitten with the azure print but as an everyday, year-round option I went with the ebene. Just curious if you were deciding between the two prints as well :).

Have you done any comparisons of quality over the years? I bought a Neverfull in December (2017) and it is already showing signs of wear along the leather trim. I’ve compared it to a friend’s Totally (which has been discontinued) from 2012 and though the materials should be the same, they seem very different.

Do you have any info./insight on this?

Morgan, I’m in the process of trying to figure out which Neverfull to get, the MM or GM. How y’all are you? Hey say anyone over 5’5 should get the Gm, but I’m not sure I want something that big, but don’t want the MM to look silly either. Any help is appreciated!

  12. Morgan Reed

    May 14th, 2018 at 2:01 pm

    Hi Allison!

I am 5’3 and find that the MM is more of a “normal” (if there is such a thing) handbag for me and the GM is much larger. I don’t think the MM would look to small!

I hope that helps 🙂 Thank you for stopping by my blog!!

Love this! What size laptop do you have? I recently go the neverful mm in DE which i love but I’m worried I won’t be able to fit my ‘15 MacBook Ann’s beard that the straps could get heavy? I wanted to use it as a work bag to carry everything I need but feel It big not be big enough! I’m 5’1”

Hey Morgan, I can’t decide between the NF MM in Monogram and in Damier Azur..

I went to the store and tried both colorways, but I am still unsure. I plan to use this bag on a daily basis therefore I don’t want to baby it. Is it hard to keep the light interior (of the Damier Azur) clean?

  21. Morgan Reed

    November 14th, 2018 at 2:46 pm

    Hi Denise!

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! I would definitely say that the rose ballerine interior is very sensitive. I use mine almost daily in the summer (and even into the fall, winter, and spring) and mine has really taken a beating! It mostly shows for me on the bottom of the bag, which is good because at first glance it doesn’t look too bad if you have things in the bag. However, the bottom does look rough! Lol! I hope that helps 🙂

Was looking to purchase the Gm , but was wondering about the handles hold up , I wanted to use maybe as both everyday and more travel , with maybe books and camera iPad and wallet but was wondering about weight ? Thanks for the wonderful description of both bags . Julia

    Hi Julia!!

I have found that handles hold up very well! I used my GM in college and it helps my MacBook Pro + textbooks and more. I usually stuff mine so full on vacation that it hurts my arm to carry, which isn’t good! (LOL) But, I haven’t had any trouble with my straps! I hope that helps 🙂 If you have any questions, just let me know.

If buying today… would you do Mono, Ebene or Azur? I am looking to get the MM but I am torn on which to get! I have other bags in each already and I love them all but for some reason I am leaning towards the DE on the MM Neverfull?

  25. Morgan Reed

    December 18th, 2018 at 1:37 pm

Hi Deborah!! That is amazing! I am so happy for you! I find that my GM is a little too big for me, for everyday use. I feel that it works better for travel, as it is really big. I’m about 5’3, so if you are a little taller, it might work for you. I love my MM for everyday use. I hope that helps! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog!

    Hi Morgan,
Very useful article. Thank you. I thought about buying Damier azur in mm for summer but after your post i think i need gm, cause i always carry things around. I already have one GM in damier.
What i think i could add to your post is that you can also fold the bag on sides to make it looking smaller if you are not carrying a lot right now, but you always have an option then to pull the straps again and make it bigger.
I also have a question. Do you have an organizer for your bag? I’m thinking about getting one but not sure whether i need it..

Hi Carla! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! I can’t give a great recommendation, as I’m not a Mom. However, I would personally recommend the MM simply because the GM can just get too big for me. If I was going to use one for a diaper bag, I would go for the MM. It holds a ton but doesn’t get too big or heavy on my shoulder. I hope that helps you out! BTW, that is going to be a very beautiful diaper bag! Happy Mothers Day (a little bit early)!
