The Home

Lately, I have been promising a post sharing a little update on our home, so today I wanted to begin sharing another post about our home and our Home Series: Foundation and Framing post! We have come a long way since my last post [here]. Our foundation has been place and our framing is almost complete! All of the work we have put into our home is finally starting to show, and our home is looking like a house these days.

I never had a clue just how many decisions we would have to make throughout this process. I thought building a house would be so amazing. We would be able to pick all of the pretty details, and while it is great and we are so blessed, there are so many more decisions then I could have ever imagined. We just ordered our windows and it is incredible how much goes into selecting the windows for your house! Choosing the hardware on the window, will they have panes or no panes, how many panes/ glass squares will they have,  the gas between the two pieces of glass, even selecting the detailing on the pane, and so much more! I was literally blown away at how many options there are and left wondering “How in the world will I ever be able to choose one?” Thank God for Jay!

The framing is almost complete and we can finally see the structure of what our home will look like! I am so in love and can’t wait for the next few steps in the process! While, at times, it can be overwhelming. Home building is so rewarding and Jay and I are beyond blessed to have this opportunity. Over the past few months, I have come to the realization that I truly love home design. Interior, exterior, and all other aspects of the design process! There are so many things to take into account and I’m over here thinking like “Maybe I should have went to design school, instead of majoring in Public Policy?” But there is always the future right?!

Currently, we are making a few last minute decisions on our Hardie Board and roofing. We are thinking of going with white Hardie Board and artificial cedar shake roofing [Enviroshake]. We are still determining if white is the color we want to go with for the exterior. I know white will beautiful, and Jay and I both love the color, but we will be mostly surrounded by trees. So, the white will be quite a bit of maintenance. But, I think it will be completely worth it for a beautiful home! I would love to know your thoughts! What’s your homes exterior color?

While I love so many features of the house, I am overly obsessed with the amount of windows we have! One of the main things I wanted, when we designed our floor plan and window features, was a lot of light. Dark spaces, while for some are great, tend to seem very depressing to me. I like light, bright, open and airy spaces. I knew from the start I wanted a lot of windows and Jay did too. Plus, they are great for pretty blog and Instagram pictures, lol!

I can’t wait until we get to start picking out pain colors, appliances and fixtures! I will continue my Home Building Series as we continue to progress through the process. If you would like I would love to share some inspirational home posts, of pictures that we are using for inspiration and you can always see some on my Pinterest page here. If you have any questions about the process or local contractors we have used, just leave me a comment or shoot me an email! I would love to talk about it with you!

Happy Monday!
