The Home

As I mentioned in my last post, it’s hard managing everything in life while also trying to grow my blog! While I was on my little “blogging break“, I took some time to focus on our home a bit. When it comes to working on our home, I’m very passionate. I can easily spend hours online trying to find the perfect piece of furniture and in full transparency, when I find it, it usually isn’t cheap!

Making investments in our home is something that I love, but it’s just that, an investment. Jay really helps me pick up the slack and does such an amazing job keeping things looking beautiful on the outside of our home. It has always been my goal to share Home Updates with you, over the years, and it’s been a while since my last one! This post doesn’t really have a rhyme or reason, but I love to document our progress over the years.

Our powder room is almost complete and I can’t wait to have our first little “reveal” very soon! We have been working on so many exciting things and as you know a home has so many working pieces. everything just takes time. Here are a few little home updates and some of our plans for the summer.

Furniture

I spotted this mirror, shown above, a month or so ago at a local shop The Guild Hall in Williamsburg. My mom actually pointed it out to me and I instantly fell in love. After thinking about it for quite a while, I finally purchased it Jay hung it for me over the weekend. I couldn’t be happier with how this mirror looks hanging in our entry. It pairs perfectly this beautiful piece of furniture and adds so much warmth to this space, making it more inviting!

We also relocated the little writing desk, that was formerly in our office, into our family room. As of right now, we still don’t have furniture in our family room. So, this helps to make this space feel homier and it houses a candle, photo, and a lamp, for subtle lighting in the evening. I just love lamps! Do you?

Sidewalk

Our sidewalk is officially installed, finished and so fabulous. Can you tell that I love it already? We went the good majority of 2017 without a driveway and after having our driveway put in, last summer, I have been anxiously awaiting our sidewalk! Jay and I both love beautiful things, which in turn usually have a pretty hefty price tag. We knew that we wanted our sidewalk to be blue stone, to match our porches, so we decided to hold out for what we really wanted. Even if it would cost more and take a little longer.

You can probably see that we have a little work to do around the edges sidewalk (fill dirt, new mulch, etc). However, I’m so happy with it and wanted to share it with you all! Now, I don’t have to feel bad about people coming to our front door and having to walk on a muddy path to get there. Either way, I’m so happy to welcome people into our home now!

Garden & Outdoor Spaces

This could possibly one of the most exciting things in this post and is definitely by far the most rewarding. If you have been following along on my Instagram and stories, you would have seen the process of our garden coming to life! I have missed gardening so much the past two years, as we haven’t had a garden at our new home yet. We finally got everything planned, prepared and in the ground. I can’t wait to share more of our garden soon, once everything is sprouting up.

We have also been working on the porches and helping to revive some of our potted plants after a long winter. I have been wanting to get a pretty planter out by our garage for a while now and finally found the one shown above at a local nursery. We filled it with a small boxwood, a few white flowers, and ivy. It turned out so beautiful and a mama bird has already made it home for her and her babies (they are still eggs, right now, by the way). Although it makes watering my plant a bit more difficult, it makes me so happy that our home can be shared. With some animals that is! We have already been having snake issues, which is not my favorite, so I need to get down some snake repellant!

I always call our house “Funny Farm” in the Spring and Summer, because we always have so many animals around here! Raccoons, snakes, deer, birds, tree frogs and now the squirrels are taking over, as you can see from my empty bird feeder. We have to do something about them eating all of our seed. Any tips for keeping squirrels from eating everything?

We have been truly enjoying our outdoor spaces and the garden so much. The roses have been blooming so beautifully and our peonies are almost finished blooming. I can’t wait to see how these plants grow from year to year, in future home updates! I have spent most of my days watering, cutting and arranging my flowers. To be completely honest, nothing in the world makes me happier than being in our garden with my two guys!

I hope that you have enjoyed this little update and I don’t plan on going this long without future home updates and room reveals. It finally feels like things are coming together and settling down a bit. You can always see glimpses of our home, and everyday life, in vlogs on my Youtube channel. I would love to know what home projects you are working on, have planned or just finished!

Everything looks beautiful. For your bird feeder, I found that squirrels and black birds do not like safflower seeds so that’s all I use now.
